The 52-Week Collection - Week 11: Future Awaits

Sometimes, we may wonder, 'What is ahead?'.

Sorry it's old picture again this week, I was planning to do a self portrait this week but unfortunately I am not in good shape due to allergy, guess I will be ok soon so I will do that next week or the week after =)

For foreign friends who might not be familiar with Chinese wedding culture, this is what Chinese brides would wear on their wedding day, with dragon and phoenix embroidered on, which symbolize good fortune and happiness. The color red is what we would use in days that worth celebrating like weddings, Chinese New Year and birthdays.

If photography is painting using light, then I think sunlight is my favorite color. =)

The other side of the world

I think I want to write an entry now, after seeing Zoriah's photos. I feel honored and glad that he has added me as a contact and let me come face to face to the other side of the world.

Since the start of my photography journey about 19 months ago, my practices has been focusing on something about happiness, love, beauty, things that are what we stereotyped as "positive", the reason I said it's "stereotyped" was that whether something is positive or negative, in my opinion, is highly subjective. For example, playing computer games during exam period is considered as a bad thing, but why is it bad? That is subjective don't you think? You might be able to give a list of reasons but I still want to ask Why. Although I do think we should not be distracted from studies when we should study, this is the question I have been asking my professors. Why? Why? Why?  until my professors think I am a bit annoying perhaps? :P and said "I think you've got a point"...:P

Back to the Zoriah's pictures, as far as I have read and see, he is an award-winning photojournalist with his works published in various well known media. I have a thing for war history I am not so sure why. I feel sad and sick knowing about those history but I keep on craving for more details on those history. Those are painful lessons that teach us about peace and humanity. Image is a powerful tool, if we use it well, we can spread important messages though the pictures, and I think that's what Zoriah has achieved. I admire him for his courage to use his camera to show the world the side that some of us(including me) are avoiding to see. I am still not comfortable to use my camera in that way because I don't think I am capable to deal with those pictures yet. if I were him, standing in the middle of a war zone, I think I would not be emotionally capable to take pictures, that is just too sad. Maybe, however, I will find my courage on that one day.

P.S Here is Zoriah's Website link if you are interested to have a look, have a look at Zoriah's blog too. (Warning: the pictures might be a bit depressing)

The 52-Week Collection - Week 10: Sugar in the Marmalade

Wohoo! Week 10! About one fifth of the whole 52 weeks journey...^^
My sincere thanks to all my friends who has been supportive to this little project of mine...^^I love it so much when you all give me suggestions, opinions and occasionally ask about the progress of the collection! Thank you so much and please continue to support! :)

Thanks my darling for finding the title for their pictures.. ^^I have known San for 10 years now, we are regarded as twin baby at high school LoL when you see one of us here, the other one must be somewhere nearby LoL We have accomplished a lot together, projects, exams, other activities and we shared a lot together too.

And because of this long friendship, I found it quite hard to take pictures for them! You have to know them well to experience the feeling of "Sugar in the marmalade", they never stop moving =_= haha they are so active that perhaps I can say they are hyperactive LoL Greg was a bit shy that day, we had lotsss of fun nonetheless! Only pity on that day was that it's quite cloudy and raining, we couldn't get enough sunlight..with their vampire-speed moves, I couldn't catch up with them without flash :P:P and once the flash's there...pictures are a bit unnatural. In my opinion, sunlight is the most beautiful light we could ever get for photos, "Photography is painting using light", as someone says. Thanks San and Greg for agreeing to be part of the project again =)

The Beauty of Darkness

It has been about 19 months since I bought my DSLR, I am glad that I did, photography gives me so much fun, lately I have been trying to identify my picture style but have no luck finding words to describe my photos...I think I really do need more time and practices to let my style explicitly shown on more pictures.. I would appreciate a lot if you could throw me some adjectives for my photos!

This snap shot was taken on the day I took pictures for my friends at campus (they'll be in this week's collection, stay tuned!), there are quite a lot of couples taking wedding pictures at our school, the mood there is quite good indeed. Not until today when I finally have time to carefully look at the pictures taken on that day do I realize this could be a good picture! I have been picturing this mood in my mind and I like the mood the darkness gives to the picture. Normally, I don't really like to retouch photos... but I need to darken out the photographer on left edge..:P:P and it turns out quite special.

I am looking forward to a few photos sessions with my friends after exam! That will probably be my greatest relaxation activity after exam! LoL

Be Well!

The 52-Week Collection - Week 9: Joy of Pregnancy

The bond is formed since the very first day...

Happy Mothers' Day 2010!
I have swap this picture from week 8 to week 9..I didn't realize today is the Mothers' Day last week when I was preparing the pictures! This picture suits the theme of mothers' day a lot!

On this special occasion, I would like to dedicate this special song to all of you -
If I could - Celine Dion

if I could
I'd protect you from the sadness in your eyes
give you courage in a world of compromise
yes, I would
if I could
I would teach you all the things I've never learned
and I'd help you cross the bridges that I've burned
yes, I would
if I could
I would try to shield your innocence from time
but the part of life I gave you isn't mine
I've watched you grow, so I could let you go
if I could
I would help you make it through the hungry years
but I know that I could never cry your tears
but I would
if I could
yes, if I live
in a time and place where you don't want to be
you don't have to walk along this road with me
my yesterday won't have to be your way
if I knew
I would try to change the world I brought you to
and there isn't very much that I could do
but I would
if I could
oh baby
I just want to protect you
and help my baby through the hungry years
'cause you're part of me
and if you ever ever ever need
I said a shoulder to cry on
or just someone to talk to
I'll be there, I'll be there
I didn't change your world
but I would
if I could

Behind the scene:
Another picture of Bonnie that I like a lot too!
(I was struggling with the 2 pictures above just now...after friends' vote, the first one was chosen...=D however, Chauses will be running out of old pictures soon...LoL so I might include this in the collection later if I am too busy taking new photos...=P)

Time flies! It's the 8th week now! I can't believe it's another week, time flies really quickly.

Thanks to Cherry who brought me with her on Bonnie's photo session day. I can totally feel the joy Bonnie is experiencing with her baby-in-the-belly! Life is such a miracle, don't you think?
Three women together guaranteed lots of girls' talk, even Bonnie's pet is a female, that was a fun day!

I have been struggling with which picture to choose again this week...I have to admit that I am really picky =( {not a very good thing indeed, you just have no idea how not-easy-going I can be when I do shopping..."excuse me, there's a *dust size* scratch on the surface of this notebook"..."excuse me, the eyes of this doll are not quite balance..."} other than this I am totally nice =D wakaka!

Anyway...I will try to be less picky...I promise.=w= So much time could be saved if I were not that picky. =P I know....

Thanks for reading!
Be well~

The 52-Week Collection - Week 8: Together

Thanks Miranda and William for this awesome photo! I have been wanting to do this shot for long, after seeing 'that kiss' from spiderman :D:D

When the love is so strong, we don't need to hear from the couple of how much they love each other, we can feel the bond, feel the love through their eyes and smiles.

"It's an unspoken thing...There's no word that goes that deep...And nothing can come between..."

*p.s. This picture was originally for week 9,
but being swap to week 8 because of Mothers' Day!

Pre-Mothers' Day Dinner

We had the pre-Mothers' Day dinner tonight.. to prevent dinning in a very crowded restaurant on Sunday :D:D We are just not comfortable dinning in a noisy and crowded restaurant... :P:P will get a headache after that lol!

We had steak tonight, that was a really old restaurant, seats are not comfortable but the food is awesome.
I had my favorite soup! and the bun is like my hand's size...@.@

Main Dish! T bone steak hehe! See! That's why I said the food is awesome...see how thick the steak is..a fork's width...@.@

My favorite drink again, coffee+milk tea... you've got to try it if you visit HK, it's tasty but quite a few foreign friends said it tastes a bit strange haha (I wonder if I can sleep tonight =.=)
The restaurant is not crowded only because we were there at 5:30, if you get there at 7...you can hardly squeeze into the restaurant.

Okay! Needa study for exams again! Be well!

Chupa Chups

Yesterday I was seeing my "students", actually I think I have already treated them as half son and daughter without my notice...lol
I realized I haven't got them treats for quite a while so grabbed something on the way. This is a nice treat, when I was small I ate quite a lot of them...haha Chocolate flavor, strawberry, coca cola flavor, cream etc you name it. This one is really great, lime and orange, quite refreshing. So glad to see them all cheered up just by this little treat, what happened to us adults now? can't we just feel happy and satisfied with just one piece of candy? I have lots of fun with them, well they are telling me all the strategies of how to finish a Chupa Chups in a faster way...trying to explain why there's a little hole on the candy stick...and analyzed the flavor without looking at the package. All these confirmed that "human are intrinsically interested in making sense of the world" and that irregular treat (reward) is motivating. Haha.

Haven't been writing entries about my daily life...have been busy with school work and exams. Somehow I hope time can fly slower, I love school.

Watched Tuesdays with Morrie the movie again last night, had a good cry. If you didn't know about Morrie and if you are interested in life topics, try the book "Tuesdays with Morrie", this book is one of my favourites. I seldom read a book twice but I think I have read this book 3-4 times. Worth reading, definitely.

Be well, my friends!

The 52-Week Collection - Week 7: Love Never Fails

A bit busy this week so posting old photos again...:D:D
This picture was taken at Pixie and Charles's wedding, wonderful couples and touching wedding. Their wedding rings are so special, "LOVER NEVER FAILS" was engraved on them. I think the wedding rings the couples choose somehow reflect their personality and their love story.

I hope everyone would respect other's work and their property rights of their work, writing my name on great Picasso's drawing does not make the drawing mine, copying the same content with a different color pen still does not make the content mine. Quote the sources and credit the author, ask for permission if required, this should be what a moral and ethical person should do.

The 52-Week Collection - Week 6: The Glamorous

Two days late this week. Sorry about that :P:P busy at school and I was struggling in choosing the picture I like most for this week, it was so difficult, there are too many of them that I think are okay.

Mentioned in the previous entry, I bought Lilies last week and was busy taking photos of them on Sunday, I didn't expect that their blossom would come so soon, thought could take a few pictures everyday for 3-5 days...but I was wrong...:P:P the flower actually finished its blossom process in one afternoon, for about 3 hours...so I couldn't be slow or else I will miss out something..when the moment is gone it's gone..I witnessed the blossom movement of the last flower when I was taking the photos, it was amazing.

Like the color of the flower and the sunlight. Best relaxation activity for the week :D:D
